Ginger Cookie Recipe – Gingerbread Man Recipe

The gingerbread man has always kept children fascinated, thanks to a well-known tale in which an anthropomorphic gingerbread cookie makes a daring escape from the oven, taunting his pursuers as he runs away. The gingerbread cookie eventually gets gobbled up by a wily fox.

During the holidays, you may get your child to make a gingerbread man, by following the recipe provided below.

Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
one egg

Directions:

Leave the unsalted butter at room temperature for half an hour.

Sift the flour, baking soda, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, cinnamon and salt into a large bowl, then set it aside.

Put the butter and brown sugar into a mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer untilthe butter is all creamy. Add a little cold water if you find the mixture too thick.

Pour in the molasses and egg, and blend thoroughly again. Slowly add the flour mixture, then blend for the final time.

Once the dough is ready, wrap it in plastic and chill it for a few hours in the fridge. After that, place the dough on wax paper and flatten it with a rolling pin.Take out your gingerbread-man cookie cutter, and start cutting.

Pre-heat your oven to at least 160 degrees Celsius, and start baking your gingerbread man cookies. Allow to bake for ten minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Decorate the gingerbread man with M&Ms, icing, candies, raisins, nuts and whatever catches your fancy.
